GEO and AEO Consulting
Generative Engine Optimization and Answer Engine Optimization: making your business the source an AI assistant cites rather than one it ignores. Crawlability for AI agents, unambiguous entity data, answer-shaped content, and corroboration beyond your own website.
Short answer, if that is all you need: GEO makes your brand retrievable and citable inside AI-generated answers; AEO structures your content so a direct question gets a direct, extractable answer. Both depend on the same foundations — crawlable HTML, unambiguous entity data, clear structure and corroboration elsewhere on the web. Neither can be guaranteed, because generative systems are non-deterministic.
Why this matters now
An increasing share of questions are being answered without a click. Google AI Overviews summarise and cite; ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini answer directly and list sources. If your business is not among those sources, you are absent from the conversation regardless of where you rank in the classic results below.
I want to be careful not to oversell this. Classic organic search still drives the majority of measurable traffic for most businesses, and anyone telling you to abandon SEO for GEO is wrong. But being invisible to the systems that increasingly mediate discovery is a compounding disadvantage, and the work required overlaps so heavily with good SEO that treating them as one programme is the sensible approach.
My full framework is published in GEO versus traditional SEO, which is worth reading before you engage anyone on this.
1. Can AI systems actually read your site?
This is the first and most commonly failed check. Many modern sites render everything client-side, so the raw HTML contains a shell and nothing else. Several AI crawlers do not execute JavaScript. A site can therefore look complete to a human, rank acceptably thanks to Google's rendering, and still deliver nothing to the systems generating AI answers.
I check what your pages actually return, verify that AI user agents are not blocked in robots.txt or by a bot-protection rule, and confirm through server logs that they are genuinely fetching pages. Bot protection is a common culprit: rules configured to stop scrapers frequently block legitimate AI crawlers too, and nobody notices because nothing visibly breaks.
2. Entity clarity
Generative systems reason about entities — a named thing with attributes and relationships — not about keyword density. So the question is whether your business is an unambiguous entity: consistently named, consistently described, consistently located, and connected to the people, services and locations it should be connected to.
Practically that means a coherent structured data graph rather than disconnected fragments. Organization or LocalBusiness, Person for the people who matter, Service for each offering, all linked by stable identifiers so the relationships are explicit. It also means the description of what you do is the same everywhere it appears, because inconsistency is what makes a system uncertain, and uncertain systems do not cite you.
3. Answer-shaped content
This is the AEO half. A page that buries its answer in the ninth paragraph, after brand throat-clearing, is hard to quote. A page that answers the question directly in the first forty to sixty words and then elaborates is easy to quote — and it is also better for human readers, which is why this is one of the few optimisation tactics with no downside.
Concretely: lead with the direct answer, use headings that mirror the question actually being asked, keep the factual claims specific and self-contained, and include real questions with real answers rather than marketing copy shaped like an FAQ. Every page I build for this now starts with a short summary block for exactly this reason, including this one.
4. Corroboration beyond your own site
This is the part most GEO offerings skip, and it is probably the most important. A generative system weighs whether claims are supported outside your own marketing. If the only place asserting that you are a credible provider is your own homepage, that is weak evidence.
Strengthening it means consistent presence across the places that describe businesses and people factually: verified professional profiles, reputable directories, genuine publications, real project or code footprints, and where warranted, structured knowledge sources. This is slow, unglamorous work and it cannot be faked convincingly, which is precisely why it carries weight.
5. Measurement, honestly framed
There is no Search Console for AI answers. What can be done is a fixed set of questions your customers would actually ask, tested repeatedly across the major assistants over time, recording whether you are cited and how you are described. Combine that with server log evidence that AI crawlers are fetching your pages, and referral data from assistant domains where it exists.
This is directional rather than precise, and it varies run to run. I will present it that way. Any vendor showing you a confident "AI visibility score" has invented a metric.
What I will not do
- Guarantee citation in any AI system. It is not controllable.
- Add fake review or rating markup to manufacture credibility signals. This risks a manual action and is straightforwardly dishonest.
- Mass-generate content to flood retrieval. It degrades your site and these systems increasingly discount it.
- Sell GEO as a replacement for a technically sound site. If the foundations are broken, that is the work that comes first.
Common questions
Is GEO just SEO with a new name?
They share most of the technical foundation, which is why some of the marketing around GEO is repackaging. The genuine differences are the emphasis on entity clarity, extractable answer structure and external corroboration, and the fact that success is a citation rather than a position.
Does this work for a small Nepali business?
Often better than for a large one, because the competition for being the cited source on specific local questions is thin. A well-structured page answering a genuine local question has a real chance of being the source an assistant reaches for.
How long does it take?
Crawlability and structure changes can be reflected within weeks. Entity corroboration is a matter of months, because it depends on other sites and platforms, not on yours.
Do I need this if I already do SEO?
If your SEO already covers technical health, structured data and genuinely useful content, you have most of the foundation. The additions are answer-shaped structure, a connected entity graph and deliberate off-site corroboration.

Ask an assistant about your business
Genuinely, try it first. Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity the question a customer would ask, and see whether you appear and whether the description is right. Send me what you get and I will tell you why.
