AEO Expert in Nepal: Answer Engine Optimisation
Answer engines do not read your page, they take a piece of it. AEO is the discipline of making that piece exist: a self-contained, accurate answer a machine can lift without mangling. It is the most mechanical of the search disciplines, and the one where a small Nepali business can beat a large competitor by simply being clearer.
Short answer: answer engine optimisation structures your content so a system can extract a direct answer from it — for featured snippets, People Also Ask, voice results and the answer portion of AI assistants. The rule that decides everything: the answer must make sense on its own, with no surrounding context. If it needs the paragraph above it, it cannot be extracted.
What AEO is, and how it differs from SEO and GEO
These three get sold as buzzwords and are genuinely different jobs with different definitions of success.
| Competing to be | You win when | Measured by | |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO | A ranked link | Somebody clicks you | Clicks, impressions, position |
| AEO | The extracted answer | You are quoted in the snippet, PAA or voice result | Position 0 presence, impression share |
| GEO | A source inside generated prose | An AI names or recommends you | AI referrals, repeated prompt testing |
AEO sits closest to classical SEO, because the surfaces it targets are still mostly drawn from pages that already rank. That is also the practical constraint: you rarely win a snippet for a query you are not already on page one for. AEO is a way to convert existing ranking into disproportionate visibility, not a substitute for having any.
The surfaces, and what each one rewards
Featured snippets
The block above the normal results that answers the query directly. Google selects it from pages already ranking well, and the format follows the question: a definition question gets a paragraph, a “how to” gets a numbered list, a comparison gets a table. Matching the format to the question type is the single most reliable lever.
People Also Ask
The expanding set of related questions. Each entry is an extraction from some page, and they multiply: opening one adds more. This rewards pages that answer the neighbouring questions as well as the main one, which is why a proper cluster beats a single article.
Voice results
An assistant reads one answer aloud. There is no second place. Spoken queries are longer and more conversational than typed ones, and in Nepal voice matters more than most businesses assume because it removes the need to type in a second script on a mid-range phone. For a business with a location, what gets read out is usually your Google Business Profile, so hours and address accuracy matter more than page copy.
AI assistant answers
The overlap with GEO. The distinction I hold to: AEO is being the answer, GEO is being a source among several in longer synthesised prose. The structural work overlaps heavily; the measurement does not.
FAQ rich results were deprecated in 2026
FAQ markup should not be sold as guaranteed search real estate or as an AI citation tactic. Google says structured data is not required for generative AI search and there is no special AI schema. Use supported markup only when it accurately matches visible content and serves a documented search feature; clear questions and self-contained answers can still help human readers without claiming that schema causes citations.
How to structure content for extraction
Six habits, in order of how much they matter.
- Make the heading the question. Not “Pricing Overview” but “How much does a website cost in Nepal?”. Match the words people actually use, including the awkward phrasing.
- Answer immediately underneath, in forty to sixty words. No preamble, no throat-clearing about how important the topic is. The first sentence should be usable on its own.
- Write self-contained sentences. Avoid “as mentioned above”, “this” and “it” referring backwards. Name the subject again even when it feels repetitive, because the extracted fragment will not carry the antecedent.
- Match format to question type. Steps get an ordered list. Comparisons get a table. Definitions get a paragraph.
- Add accurate structured data that mirrors visible content. Never markup-only content.
- Be specific, and cite where a figure came from. “Roughly NPR 40,000 to 120,000 for a small business site” is extractable. “Prices vary depending on requirements” is not, and is also useless to the reader.
Entity clarity and E-E-A-T
Answer engines prefer sources they can attribute. That means a named author with a real profile, a dated page, a consistent business name and address across every property, and a sameAs list pointing at profiles that genuinely exist. In Nepal the recurring failure is inconsistency: landmark-based addresses written five different ways, phone numbers appearing with and without +977, and a business name that differs between the website, the Google Business Profile and Facebook. Pick one canonical form and use it everywhere.
Experience is the part that cannot be faked and increasingly the part that separates sources. First-hand measurement, local specifics and honest limits outperform confident generic summary. When I audited my own site, the useful finding was an unflattering one, and I published it as zero non-brand clicks against a technical score of 92.
AEO in the Nepali context
Three things differ from what international guides assume.
Question phrasing is mixed-language. A great many Nepali users type Roman transliteration rather than Devanagari, so the question in your heading should be the form people actually type, not the grammatically tidy version. If a term matters commercially, check both forms.
Local questions dominate. “What are the opening hours”, “where is it”, “how much does it cost”, “is it open now”. These are answered from your Google Business Profile far more often than from your website, which makes profile accuracy the highest-return AEO work for any business with a location.
Snippets can cost you clicks. Worth deciding deliberately. For a query where the user's entire need is a fact, giving it away is a fair trade on a query you would never have converted. On a commercial page where somebody is comparing providers, you want the visit, so the answer should establish trust while leaving a genuine reason to click. Optimising every page for extraction without that distinction is how sites lose useful traffic while their “position zero count” goes up.
How I work on this
The sequence is unglamorous and it works: find the questions you already rank on page one for, since those are the winnable extractions; restructure those pages so the answer is self-contained and formatted to match the question; correct the entity inconsistencies across your properties; add structured data that mirrors what is visible; then verify in Search Console whether impressions and position actually moved rather than assuming.
What I will not do: add FAQ schema for content nobody can see, promise a featured snippet, or report a “position zero count” as though it were revenue. Where extraction would cost you commercial clicks, I will say so and leave the page alone.

Common questions
What is AEO?
Structuring content so a system can extract a direct answer from it, for snippets, People Also Ask, voice results and AI answers.
How is AEO different from SEO and GEO?
SEO wins a click from a ranked link. AEO wins by being the extracted answer. GEO wins by being a cited source inside generated prose.
Does FAQ schema still give rich results?
No, not as an expanded result for most sites.
How do I win a featured snippet?
Target a question you already rank on page one for, make the heading the question, answer in forty to sixty self-contained words, and match the format to the question type.
Does voice search matter in Nepal?
More than most assume, because it avoids typing in a second script. For businesses with a location, the assistant usually reads your Google Business Profile.
Can being the answer lose me traffic?
Yes, on queries where the answer is the whole need. Fair trade on informational queries, a bad trade on commercial ones. Decide per page.
