A Practical SEO Checklist for Nepali Businesses

I use this checklist to turn SEO into clear actions you can assign, complete and review, rather than treating it as a one-off fix.

Where SCO, AEO and GEO fit into this checklist

People in Nepal increasingly ask a question inside Google's AI overview, ChatGPT or another assistant before they ever open a website. This checklist still applies; the tasks above are what make a page eligible to be read, understood and quoted in the first place.

I treat this as three related disciplines rather than three new tricks. Search Content Optimization (SCO) is the practical habit of writing content around what a real customer is trying to decide, then organising it so both a person and a machine can follow it. Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the narrower job of making a specific answer, such as a price range, a process step or a definition, easy to lift out and quote correctly. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is about being one of the sources an AI system chooses to cite when it builds a longer answer, which depends on the same trust signals as ordinary SEO: accurate facts, a named author and consistent information across your site and profiles.

Frequently asked questions

How long does SEO take in Nepal?

There is no fixed timeline. Your competition, website quality, local presence and pace of implementation all affect when you may see a measurable change. I recommend reviewing a suitable period rather than working towards a promised date.

How much does SEO cost for a small Nepali business?

A useful estimate needs a clear scope. Your site's condition, competition, target locations, content needs and technical work all affect the cost, as does whether you handle the work yourself or hire a specialist.

Can I do SEO myself?

Yes. You can complete many of the basic website, content and local profile tasks in this checklist with free Google tools. You may need specialist help for complex rendering, migrations, security, structured data or persistent indexing problems.

Is Google Business Profile free?

Yes. Google lets an eligible business add or claim a Business Profile at no charge. Advertising, photography, consultancy and third-party software are optional, separate costs.

Do Nepali keywords help SEO?

They can help when your customers genuinely search with those words. Use conversations and search data to research English, Devanagari Nepali and natural Roman Nepali, then choose the language that fits each page instead of forcing every variation into it.

How often should I update my website?

Update information whenever your business changes, and review important pages as part of regular maintenance. Do not leave incorrect hours, prices, services, policies or contact details online while waiting for a publishing date.

What is the difference between SEO and paid advertising?

SEO improves how well your site can be found and understood in unpaid search results; you don't buy each visit. Paid advertising buys placement while your campaign budget is active. The two can work together, but neither guarantees a sale or ranking.

Do you work with businesses outside Kathmandu?

Yes. I run this same checklist and wider digital marketing in Nepal work with clients in Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Butwal, Chitwan, Dharan, Hetauda, Birgunj and Nepalgunj, not only in Kathmandu. The technical and on-page work is identical everywhere; only the local proof, such as photos, service areas and reviews, needs to reflect the actual city.

What should a basic SEO checklist include?

Ownership of Search Console, Analytics and Google Business Profile, one indexable page per service with a clear title and heading, fast mobile loading on HTTPS, accurate business details everywhere, internal links between related pages, a review process, and a monthly look at the queries that bring people in. This page turns each of those into a task you can tick.

How do I use this checklist?

Work from the top. The foundation tasks come first because nothing else counts until Google can find and index the site. Tick each box as you finish it; the page remembers your progress in this browser. Revisit the monthly tasks on a fixed date rather than when you remember.

Is this checklist enough for an ecommerce site in Nepal?

It covers the foundation every site needs. An online shop also needs product and category pages with unique titles, Product schema, a plan for out of stock items, filtered URLs kept out of the index and fast product images. Finish this checklist first, then add those.

Not sure what to tackle first?

I can review your website and give you a practical, prioritised list of the SEO issues that matter to your business.
